DEAFBRICK
Brasil/UK
︎︎︎Deafkids
Born from a collaboration for the Roadburn Festival, Deafbrick is the result of the symbiosis of psychedelic punk trio Deafkids (São Paulo, Brazil) and the effervescent duo Petbrick (London, UK) - formed by Iggor Cavalera and Wayne Adamns. Politically motivated by the uncertainties of the present time, their union is a vibrant and aggressive response to the feeling of powerlessness and immobility that has been always there but was intensified during the Covid-19 pandemic. In the words of Melo, member of Deafkids, the sound created by this encounter is a way to “allow us to get back in touch with our own bodies, this feverish thing in movement”.

DUMA

︎︎︎Duma
Martin Khanja (aka Lord Spike Heart) and Sam Karugu emerge from Nairobi's flourishing underground metal scene as former members of the bands Lust of a Dying Breed and Seeds of Datura. Together in 2019 they formed Duma with Sam abandoning bass for production and guitars and Lord Spike Heart providing extreme vocals to the project. Their unique sound fuses the frenetic euphoria, unrelenting physicality and rebellious attitude of hardcore punk and trash metal with bone-crunching breakcore and raw, nihilist industrial noise through a claustrophobic vortex of visceral screams. Their self-titled debut album was released August 7th 2020 on Nyege Nyege Tapes and has received the best accolades from the press, including best album in several end-of-the-year lists such as Metal Hammer, Pitchfork, The Wire and The Quietus, among others.
